All real world conflict cannot be separated from its environmental and sociological factors – people a lot of times attack differently in different countries, cultures and periods in history. This alone will affect the tactics and techniques practiced in a given system. If you are studying a traditional Martial Arts, it would be good to understand the historical and cultural background of your art in order to speed up your learning curve and maybe even modifying it for modern needs
